Research Associate, APPROACH, Faculty of Medicine (CALGARY)
The Alberta Provincial Program for Outcome Assessment in Coronary Heart Disease (APPROACH) in the Faculty of Medicine is currently looking for a Research Associate. This full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately one year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension. This position is in our CALGARY office. • Progress the APPROACH vision and mandate to process health information to improve cardiac care
• Manages the APPROACH surveillance hotline ‘ASK APPROACH’
• Responds to APPROACH data inquiries in a confidential and timely manner
• Determines priorities of data inquiries and statistical analysis and confirms with the APPROACH team
• Under limited supervision, responsible for performing a range of data-related and research tasks in support of APPROACH program objectives
• Developing, coordinating, and carrying out surveillance and research activities of APPROACH in consultation with the APPROACH team
• Provides statistical expertise to APPROACH team and collaborators
Position Requirements
Requirements:
• Masters degree in health care related field required
• Expertise in data management and statistical analysis, particularly within health care
• Expertise in processing data
• Expertise in coordinating and conducting surveillance and research
• Expertise writing ethics protocols, development of FAQs, development of databases, statistical analysis, report generation and dissemination
• Experience with computer software programs including Microsoft office, statistical analysis programs and web design
• Experience in knowledge translation

Programmer/Analyst - Reports (EDMONTON)
APPROACH is currently seeking a Programmer/Analyst - Reports. This full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately one year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension. This position is in our EDMONTON office. Please apply through the University of Calgary jobsite.
This position reports to the APPROACH IT Software Development Manager and is responsible for the development, unit testing, and maintenance of reports. This includes the creation of stored procedures, views, and functions. Judgement requires discretionary decision making which impacts programs, services, and/or department operations. Peak periods during the year are stressful because of high volume. Work requires the management of competing interests with satisfactory outcomes for all involved. This position works in an environment where there is ambiguity, continuous change and shifting priorities.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
• Progress the APPROACH vision and mandate and process health information to improve cardiac care for all Albertans.
• Design, implement, and maintain reports for APPROACH users; administrators, clinicians, researchers, and the APPROACH team.
• Assist APPROACH research and administrative users with adhoc query design and development.
• Respond to APPROACH data inquiries in a confidential and timely manner.
• Communicate report specifications between report users and the APPROACH IT Team.
• Develop SQL queries to update the database(s) ensuring data accuracy and quality.
• Assist in data mapping and data conversion.
• Assist with development and maintenance of enterprise reporting design standards, process and guidelines ensuring effective data management.
• Other (non report) software development and tasks as assigned by the Manager, IT Software Development.
• Assist the APPROACH IT Team with software releases and upgrades.
Requirements:
• Technical Diploma or Degree with a minimum 5 years experience in report development.
• Intermediate to advanced proficiency with SQL Server 2005 (stored procedures, functions, database design), Crystal Reports, and DevExpress XtraReports.
• Proficiency in application design and working in the .Net C# development environment.
• Strong attention to detail with excellent analysis, design, and problem solving skills.
• Strong verbal, written, and communication skills and the ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
• Medical / cardiac terminology an asset.
• Expertise in report development and data management (cleaning, verification, validation).
• Expertise in SQL Server 2005.
• Knowledge of .net and web design.
• Knowledge of privacy and confidentiality requirements.
• Ability to organize multiple tasks and priorities within set timelines.
• Ability to develop reports in consultation with APPROACH managers.
• Ability to act as a resource to others.
• Ability to be resourceful, innovative, creative, strategic
• Attention to detail and accuracy required.
• Ability to work independently as well as ability to receive direction, collaborate with others.in setting goals, and work effectively in teams to achieve agreed upon goals.
• Ability to follow UofC IM policies on acceptable use of information and AHS code of conduct.
